Faith Hurley

My unquenchable curiosity to study human behavior began during my career as an actor. Even as a young child, it wasn’t the idea of being “famous” that inspired me, but rather the drive to connect with people through creating authentic moments they could instinctively relate to and more importantly – feel. My education and years of experience within the design thinking industry taught me an innate ability to ‘walk in someone else’s shoes’ to discover the human behind every user. Today, I use these skills to uncover the complex needs in order to guide others through the art of empathy and storytelling to an authentic solution.

Stacy Callighan

My passion for design began at age 7 when I decided to become an architect. Nearly 15 years later, while obtaining my MArch at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, I learned the ‘why’ behind my drive – to make a difference in people’s lives through the experiences I could create. Today, my work lies at the intersection of architecture, ethnography and business strategy. As a designer, I believe it is my responsibility to extend human potential and promote social change. As part of the collective, I leverage human-centered research to design experiences that disrupt the way we think and make an impact in the world.

As designers, we made a conscious choice to impact the people who come in contact with our work. The effect of what we put into the fabric of society is always a key consideration of what we create.
Responsibility for the work.
We are responsible for what we put into the world. When we ignorantly produce work that harms others because we didn’t consider the full ramifications, we are guilty. The work we bring into the world is our legacy.
Know our audience.The more we can reflect the audience we design for, the more thoroughly we can solve the problems they have. We come from different points of view, different backgrounds, and different sets of experiences.
Beyond the middle.For years, people who weren’t in the majority were marginalized. By subtracting their needs and opinions, we were making a decision they weren’t worth solving for. They are human beings and we owe everyone our best work.
Impact over form.We fear the consequences of our work more than we love the cleverness of our idea. For that reason, we judge the value of our work on its impact first, aesthetics second.
More than doers.When we are hired to design something, we are hired to be trusted partners. Our job is not just to produce, but to evaluate the impact. We believe asking “why” is a design skill as valuable as the design is itself.
Open to criticism.We encourage criticism in order to create a better future. We believe criticism should be inquired and welcomed at every step of the process and it’s our responsibility to ask for it.
